Lucid Is Taking Deposits On Its Tesla Model S Competitor.

Another Silicon Valley startup is set to take deposits on their own all electric sedan as battery company Lucid has started to take $1,000 deposits for their upcoming Air sedan. So far the Lucid has managed to make a 'beta' prototype with plans to start production in late 2020. Lucid is a battery technology company that threw its hat in the automotive ring by premiering the Lucid Air sedan in 2016 . MODEL S COMPETITOR. One of the advantages of going first is that allows the first to be the standard setter. Such is the case with the Tesla Model S. The Model S has set what consumers expect in a luxury electric sedan. The Lucid Air is taking aim at two numbers specifically, range and price. The Air promises a staggering 400 mile range and hopes to come in at $60,000. The Tesla offers a 373 mile range for their top model and starts at $75,000. LUCID AIR The Air is the first automobile offering for the battery company. It was first introduced in 2016 as a

Hardware is a cybersecurity risk. Here's what we need to know

Cyberspace does not exist in a vacuum. All cyber systems are built using the physical hardware of the semiconductor chips found in all modern electronics, computers, communications networks and other critical infrastructure. These chips are becoming faster, cheaper and more powerful, and this has enabled the rise of artificial intelligence, the internet of things (IoT), and autonomous systems as key technologies of the future. As the world becomes increasingly reliant on advanced technologies for economic growth and national security, implicit trust in hardware becomes an untenable option. Ultimately, hardware is the foundation for digital trust. A compromised physical component can undermine all additional layers of a system’s cybersecurity to devastating effect. Hardware security, therefore, focuses on protecting systems against the vulnerabilities at the physical layer of devices. ✳️ Hardware vulnerability Hardware attacks take advantage of vulnerabilities in hardware-manufactur

Cyprus Arrests Three in 'Israeli Spy Van' Probe

Cyprus on Thursday arrested three people in connection with an alleged Israeli-owned "spy van" equipped with sophisticated surveillance technology capable of hacking communications, police said. The Cypriot suspects, two men and a woman, face 13 charges related to violation of privacy laws, processing private data, falsely obtaining documents and breaking the radio communication law. Police said the trio – who work for the company that owns the van -- are expected to appear before a court in the southern coastal city of Larnaca on Friday for a detention order. The vehicle is owned by Cyprus-registered company WiSpear, whose Israeli CEO Tal Dillian is said to be a former Israeli intelligence officer. Last month an independent investigator was appointed to assist the police probe into the van, which appeared in a Forbes video that went viral on the Mediterranean island. Forbes said multi-million-dollar equipment in the van can monitor electronic devices within a 500-metre

FBI: Don’t Dabble with Public Wi-Fi This Holiday Season

The FBI has issued a warning to holiday travelers not to use public Wi-Fi on the road this Christmas because of cybersecurity concerns. As internet users cross countries and continents to be with friends and family over the holiday period, the Feds argued that Wi-Fi hotspots should be avoided. “Don’t allow your phone, computer, tablet, or other devices to auto-connect to a free wireless network while you are away from home. This is an open invitation for bad actors to access your device. They then can load malware, steal your passwords and PINs, or even take remote control of your contacts and camera,” it said in a “Tech Tuesday” post this week. “If you do need to connect to a public hotspot — such as at an airport or hotel — make sure to confirm the name of the network and the exact login procedures. Your goal is to avoid accidentally connecting to a fraudster’s Wi-Fi that they are trying to make look legit.” If using a public hotspot is unavoidable, the FBI urged users not to lo

Windows Remote Desktop Services Used for Fileless Malware Attacks

Threat actors breaching company networks are deploying a cornucopia of malware over the remote desktop protocol (RDP), without leaving a trace on target hosts. Cryptocurrency miners, info-stealers, and ransomware are executed in RAM using a remote connection, which also serves for exfiltrating useful information from compromised machines. Exploiting Windows RDS features The attackers leveraged a feature in Windows Remote Desktop Services that allows a client to share local drives to a Terminal Server with read and write permissions. These drives appear on the server as a share on a virtual network location called 'tsclient' followed by the letter of the drive and can be mapped locally. The feature has been around for a long time, and properly explained what happens when a user connects to the server and runs an application. Access to the resources shared this way is possible through RDP and no trace is left on the client machine's disk as applications execute in

Twitter Advises Users to Update Android App, Fixes Serious Security Vulnerability

Twitter says it has fixed its Android app's security vulnerability, and urges users to update. HIGHLIGHTS It may have been possible for bad actor to access information on Twitter Direct Messages, protected Tweets, location info may be compromised Users are advised to update their Twitter for Android app. In an extremely stressful year for Internet users, Twitter on Friday admitted a malicious code was inserted into its app by a bad actor that may have compromised some users' information worldwide, including in India, as people woke up to an email from Twitter, warning them to update the app for Android. The vulnerability within Twitter for Android could allow the bad actor to see non-public account information or to control your account (send Tweets or Direct Messages), said an apologetic Twitter. "Prior to the fix, through a complicated process involving the insertion of malicious code into restricted storage areas of the Twitter app, it may have been

Mars 2020 Rover Takes a Test Drive upcoming future

NASA’s Mars 2020 rover has passed its driving test. The test was mostly a forward and backward maneuver, with a six-wheeled pirouette thrown in. It’s autonomous navigation system was also part of the test. Like a toddler’s first tentative steps, this is an important milestone. This was a significant test for the rover. According to NASA, the rover passed the test and has earned its driver’s license. The next time it drives will be on the surface of Mars. “Mars 2020 has earned its driver’s license.” Rich Rieber, Lead Mobility Systems Engineer, Mars 2020 Rover “Mars 2020 has earned its driver’s license,” said Rich Rieber, the lead mobility systems engineer for Mars 2020. “The test unambiguously proved that the rover can operate under its own weight and demonstrated many of the autonomous-navigation functions for the first time. This is a major milestone for Mars 2020.” Though not exactly autonomous, the 2020 rover is designed to make more of its own driving deci

OPPO Enco Q1 Wireless Noise-Cancelling Earphones Review — Accurate Marketing

The design of the Enco Q1 is pretty similar to the older LG Tone models. There’s a neckband, which is where the battery and controls are, and the earphones are attached by wires. In the age of truly wireless earphones, you might wonder why you’d ever want to get a pair that are both tethered and have the extra weight of a neckband. Well, maybe you don’t ever want to, and that’s perfectly fine. But there are a few good reasons for the band, which I’ll get into later as well. . while many  companies  are hopping on the true-wireless bandwagon, OPPO went for something completely different. These earphones have a stiff neckband, similar to the LG Tone series, but it is flexible and contoured. Having a neckband comes with its own sets of advantages and disadvantages, which I’ll talk about later. OPPO is advertising up to 22 hours of battery life, active noise cancellation, great sound, and incredible comfort with the Enco Q1. How accurate are these statements? Does the title giv
